MIRALab

MIRALab Laboratory at the University of Geneva was founded in 1989 by Professor Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann and is composed of more than 30 researchers coming from many different fields, such as computer science, mathematics, medical sciences, design, architecture, fashion design, cognitive science, etc. The group is truly interdisciplinary, working in the field of computer graphics, computer animation, virtual worlds and virtual cultural heritage.
Since 1992 the group has participated in more than 30 European Projects; among them, the latest are LIFEPLUS (Innovative Revival of Life in Ancient Frescos and Creation of Immersive Narrative Spaces, Featuring Real Scenes with Behavioral Fauna and Flora), CAHRISMA (Conservation of the Acoustical Heritage by the Revival and Identification of the Sinains Mosques Acoustics), EPOCH( Open Cultural Heritage), ERATO (Identification, Evaluation and Revival of the Acoustical heritage of ancient Theatres and Odea), STAR (Service Training through Augmented Reality),. MIRALab is also leading projects for the Swiss National Research Foundation (FNRS) and CO-ME (Computer Aided and Image Guided Medical Interventions). Furthermore, MIRALab has been, and is still, a key contributor to several international standardization activities, such as for instance the definition of H-ANIM (being the specification of facial animation and body animation in MPEG-4), of device benchmarking and avatar preferences in MPEG-21 DIA, etc.
